THQ’s unique space shooter Star Wars Arcade: Falcon Gunner is now available to grab on compatible iPhone and iPod touch devices.

The game puts the flying terrors of the Star Wars universe in your living room - or in your city’s skyline. The augmented reality function uses your igadget’s camera to super impose the game’s graphics over your surroundings as you wiggle your iPhone about to steer the Millennium Falcon.

Or, if you live in a hermetically sealed white cube, you can switch on some pre-built backgrounds in the game’s 20-level campaign. You’ll take the fight to the icy planet of Hoth, the Kessel Run and the Death Star escape, as you gun down enemy TIE Fighters and Star Destroyers.

Each kill gives you credits, which can be spent on modifying the Falcon’s offensive and defensive capabilities.

The game comes with Game Center connectivity, for achievements and leaderboards, and Facebook integration to spam your wall with accomplishments. Plus, it sports Retina display visuals for compatible devices.

But bear in mind Falcon Gunner is compatible with only a certain number of devices, meaning you’ll need an up-to-date iPhone or iPod to play. The iPhone 4 and 3GS are cool, as are the fourth and third generation iPod touch, but you’ll be missing out on the augmented reality fun if you play on a gadget without a camera.

Star Wars Arcade: Falcon Gunner is out now, and will cost you £2.99 / $4.99 / €3.99.

You can also upgrade your ship without the stress of actually playing the game, by forking over some real world dough through in-app purchases, to the tune of 59p / 99c / €0.79c an upgrade.
