Capcom announces online play for PSP Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

Like musical toilets and decent broadband connections, the Monster Hunter series stubbornly refuses to catch on over in the west despite having taken over Japan.

One of the reasons the multiplayer monster masher has done relatively reserved business over here is because of our aversion to local multiplayer – we do most of our communal gaming online.

Capcom looks set to address that particular issue with its time-sapping Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. The latest addition to the series came out earlier in the year and will now be one of the first titles playable online using the adhocParty application – Unite players will be able to try out the service on December 22nd.

AdhocParty allows you to use your PS3 as an online hub for your PSP, providing a PSN/Xbox Live-style online gaming experience for the handheld.

Capcom Europe’s senior director of marketing, Michael Pattison, had this to say:

“The success of activity such as the Gathering Hall in the UK, a dedicated venue setup to facilitate multiplayer hunting sessions, proves that people are keen to play Monster Hunter Freedom Unite with friends and the new adhocParty service will make it even easier for gamers to team up and play together not just in their own country but throughout Europe.”
