The App Stork: Introducing Pandemica, Ringo, Tehra Dark Warrior and...
...a promising cast of extras
It really is a wonderfully satisfying feeling for us here at Pocket Gamer to see the iPhone development community making such good use of our forums.
It's slightly disappointing, however, to hear the silence ring out from you, the gamers.
Come on, people - it’s the season of good will to all men, after all. Let’s get together, developers and gamers alike, so we can talk about the games we love, the ones we think need improving and the ones we can’t wait to get our hands on.
If you're new to the App Stork, there's some serious food for thought below. Enjoy!
Pandemica - XMGApparently, augmented reality gaming is the next big thing for handhelds, so it’s interesting to see XMG get in there early with this 3GS-only offering.
The game makes use of the iPhone 3GS’s camera and compass, so that when you move the handset around, superimposed baddies start to invade the screen corresponding with your immediate environs.
It’s more than just a fancy gimmick, however. All indications are that Pandemica is a more than serviceable game with various multiplayer modes, a varied armory, and online leaderboards.
It’s clever stuff, and the slick website plus accompanying game trailer suggest to us that Pandemica could quite easily end up as a series, rather than a one off release. It’s the way of the future apparently and you can get a taste of it for just £1.19. Much cheaper than a flying DeLorean.

Ringo - YmirMobile
Ringo is quite a sedate looking title, but the charming vintage presentation gels pleasantly with the genuinely innovative gameplay mechanic, which falls somewhere between Tetris and Vortex on the iPod.
It’s not going to set your world ablaze with ecstasy, but it does offer a uniquely engaging puzzle experience with some cleverly localised leaderboards, a multiplayer option, and lashings of addictiveness. It costs £1.19 and it’s out now.

Tehra Dark Warrior - StormBasic
We’re not even going to resist the temptation to call this game Shero of Sparta, but though it may be derivative of an already derivative template, this 3D hack and slash-'em-up game looks technically accomplished.
It hails from the extremely prolific StormBasic, which, though pretty much unheard of until this year, has a strong clutch of iPhone titles already under its belt.
Playing as a half devil, half human creature, Tehra Dark Warrior dabbles in all of the cliched hyperbole and casual sexism that befits the fantasy genre, but boy does it sport some seriously huge dragons in its bestiary.
So it’s got the hair and the teeth. Here’s hoping it’s also got the brains and the agility, too, so it can stand apart from the crowd.
