Obsolescence alert: Mad Monkey Studio to cater exclusively for the iPhone 3GS

We've not heard many iPhone users saying they're interested in rushing out to upgrade to the 3GS, but the developers are clearly far more enamoured with the considerably more powerful device. A recent benchmarking video was released, pitting the iPhone 3G against its hardware upgrade, the 3GS - and the results are admittedly fascinating.

The company behind this video, Mad Monkey Studio, has since announced that it will be entering the iPhone games market, but will be focusing on creating games specifically for the 3GS.

"Thanks to Apple's iPhone 3GS incredible 3D performance, Mad Monkey Studio ... will develop games exclusively on the 3GS as it can now be considered the fastest mobile console available," the official announcement reads.

iPhone 3GS owners will naturally be quite excited at this prospect, and the looming dangers of hardware fragmentation must surely be weighing on Apple's mind. While enhanced versions of several different iPhone games have been announced, it's unclear how Apple will react to a software that will exclude the bulk of App Store users.

Of course, looking at it from a different angle, technologically advanced 3GS games could also help encourage users to upgrade to the new model. Mad Monkey Studio is currently working on its first 3GS title, so we'll bring you more news as it comes in.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
