The Independent Games Festival is rapidly overtaking the commercial awards when it comes to showcasing innovative new games. Pixalon Studio's Gish, for instance, is an excellent indie PC game that bagged both the IGF Innovation in Game Design award and the Grand Prize back in 2005. We heard back in May that the blob of fun-tar was going mobile, and it seems things are finally moving ahead, with GlobalFun bagging the distribution rights.

"Gish presents a fresh new concept in mobile gaming and sets new benchmarks for gameplay and technology. We are very happy to cooperate with a top class distributor like GlobalFun, to bring our game to a global mobile audience", says Jakub Mikyska, head of Pixalon Studios.

Gish uses a unique physics engine, which gives the main character an organic feel and allows interactions between game objects, and will apparently be carried over onto the mobile very accurately. Taking control of the amorphous Gish, you'll have over 100 levels to go through, including 45 Bluetooth multiplayer levels (co-operative, deathmatch and race modes), five playground bonus levels and nine boss battles.

"The original PC version has been a milestone in computer games and more than an inspiration for quite a few recent games on various platforms. The mobile version features engaging, fun and addicting gameplay together with a host of added functionalities and it really is one of the most feature‐complete games out there. I feel strongly that Gish will be a success for all parties involved and many industry insiders, having had seen the early demo version, have expressed the same excitement about it," comments Massimo Caporale, head of content at GlobalFun.

It's pegged for release early next year. Head on over to the official site to check out an impressive gameplay demo, and don't forget to roll over the 'Track It!' button for more Gish news as it lands.

Spanner Spencer
Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
