100% Mobile Racing Games

There's a good reason we're so enamoured with racing games on the mobile platform, and it's not simply because we fantasise rampantly about horse power and exhaust pipes. The mobile racer is a challenge from beginning to end; the developer must put extra effort into their creation to make it effective on the micro screen, and we must retrain our responses to get the most from those miniaturised, digital machines.

Keeping the genre up to date is a mammoth task for mobile game companies, as they've to compete with photo realistic console titles with force feedback steering wheels, real-time traffic reports and virtual airbags. But going from driving with four limbs to controlling a powerhouse stock car with a single thumb is a challenge many developers have met recently, and done so with impressive success.

And this is a genre that's considerably more prolific than it might first appear. To casually label many of the titles in our 100% Mobile list as 'racers' doesn't nearly do them justice; nor does it properly convey the experience a gamer can expect from them. The difference between a pastiche of the racing genre like Crash Nitro Kart and a realistic driving competition such as Moto GP 08 is vast; and a futuristic high concept like Death Race doesn't even slot in between them.

Racing games are a staple diet because of the massive amount of possibility they offer around a simple, recognisable and unabashedly entertaining gameplay mechanic, and even considering the hot-wheeled beauties we've lined up for you in 100% Mobile Racers, we've barely scratched the paintwork of this awesome genre. Spanner Spencer
Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
