Animal Farm is an upcoming adventure game adaptation of George Orwell's allegorical novella

George Orwell's Animal Farm is heading for mobile devices and Steam later this year as an adventure game from indie developers The Dairymen and Nerial. The latter of those you'll most likely know as the creator of the Reigns series.

This video game adaptation of Orwell's allegorical novella will take the form of an adventure title where players will have to make key choices throughout the story. These decisions will relate to which animals they wish to follow and those they wish to ignore or sideline.

Your choices will have an effect on the major events that happen on the farm. But there will be more to Animal Farm than influencing the branches of the narrative, as players will also be required to balance resources, defend the farm and ensure that its animal populace remains content.

The game will be narrated by Abubakar Salim, who you'll most likely know as Bayek in Assassin's Creed: Origins. It will also sport a painterly graphical style inspired by the 1930s, which you can see in the embedded trailer above.

Discussing their upcoming game, Tamara Alliot, founder of Nerial said: “When we got the opportunity to work with Imre, Andy and the estate of George Orwell to bring Animal Farm to a gaming audience we grabbed it with both hands and set out to make a game that truly honours Orwell’s parable.”

They added: “We were able to bring our genre experience to the project thanks to Reigns, and writer, Emily Short was excited to adapt the text and use her narrative design prowess. Emily has painstakingly studied Orwell’s text to ensure authenticity and verisimilitude.”

Animal Farm will be available this Autumn on mobile and Steam. There's no word on price at the moment, but we'll be sure to update you when we learn more. In the meantime, you can sign up to the game's newsletter or follow its Twitter account to stay updated.
