In order to make a significant splash with Android owners as quickly as possible, Amazon’s Appstore will be offering a free app a day service that allows users to download a selected paid app for nothing.

The first selected for the promotion is none other than Angry Birds Rio - one of the most hotly anticipated mobile titles of the year so far (among fans of Angry Birds).

The Android Market competitor is also offering a service called ‘Test Drive’ for all its apps, which allows users to try out their selection for 30 minutes in their browser before having to pay any money.

It’s an interesting spin on the try-before-you-buy mechanic that should help weed out the poor apps from the good (in theory).

Annoyingly, the Amazon Appstore is US-only right now, so we haven’t been able to give it a spin. Well let you guys know when other versions of the store go live.
