Mobile advertising firm AdMob has announced that iPhone app developers will now be able to track how many of their adverts lead to actual downloads on the App Store.

The company lets developers place ads in other iPhone applications, but until now they've only been able to track how many times those ads were seen and clicked on, but not how often they led to a purchase.

AdMob says this kind of feature is a first for mobile advertising, and that it'll allow developers to ensure they're getting as good a return on their advertising investment as possible.

What's more, AdMob has released some early stats based on the new feature. The conversion rate on ads for free apps is around 10 per cent, compared to an average of 1 per cent for paid apps.

Better still for PocketGamer.biz readers is the news that ads for games have higher conversion rates than other apps - double those of non-game apps that cost the same price.
