It's been a good day for old rumours being proved right. Google Ventures turned out to be real, and now AdMob has officially launched its iPhone Download Exchange scheme.

As reported earlier, it's an advertising network where iPhone developers advertise each others' apps within their applications. The ads appear where paid ads would usually, and developers can decide how to balance the two types.

The Exchange won't advertise apps that a user has already installed, and it's all targeted by geography and device, with analytics for the publishers placing the ads.

Such networks are common on Facebook, where they're seen as a key way to build users quickly for new applications. With social gaming crossing to iPhone already, it's no surprise to see these models coming with them.

You can find out more on the iPhone Download Exchange on its official website.
