Westurn, the brand new gunslinger themed turn-based adventure game from the developers of Froglike, launches later this week
Jimjum Studios, the indie developer behind last year’s Froglike, has announced their latest project: a turn-based shootout game themed after the old west days of yore titled Westurn. Where Froglike was a roguelike, Westurn is a 1-on-1, turn-by-turn action game that will see you squaring up against other gunslingers to see who can come out on top.
It’s tough to describe the rather abstract nature of Westurn’s gameplay, as even the trailer below might leave you feeling a little bit lost. Seemingly, you’ll have a number of abilities at your disposal to do damage to your opponent - be they a magic donkey or a normal bandito gunslinger - and that opponent will be doing damage to you as well as locking off your ability options and mixing up your gameplay. It also seems that each opponent will square up in a different way and have a sort of “theme” about them. Some might be more focused on doing big damage in one turn while others might be more focused on messing up your abilities as described previously.
Alongside this gameplay loop, there are of course plenty of unlockables. Mostly cosmetic, these items you can win from both beating opponents as well as just progressing through the game in general will allow you to make the gunslinger of your dreams exactly as you see fit. All of this is wrapped up in a pretty humorous package, as Westurn definitely doesn’t take itself too seriously, in case said magic donkey and the flying witch cat didn’t make that abundantly clear.
Even better news for those of you on Android platforms - Westurn is actually available to try out now in an incomplete early access state. For everybody else, Westurn is set to release next week on July 15th as a full release on both the App Store and the Google Play Store as well.
