Transformers G1: Awakening out now on Android
Not a hint of Shia LaBeouf in sight
Just as the Android Market starts a transformation of its own (in gaming support rather than structure), what better time to see the launch of Transformers G1: Awakening from Glu?
Previously released to decent acclaim on iPhone and mobile, it’s a turn-based strategy game based in the original (and best) Transformers universe. All the classic characters are present from the classic tale of Autobots vs Decepticons, from the noble (goody-two-shoes) Optimus Prime to the treacherous (cool as anything) Starscream.
The main tactical action takes place on a rather basic top-down grid, while battles are waged in a series of sharp, 3D-but-seemingly-hand-drawn cut-scenes. If you’ve ever played an Advance Wars game (or one of its many imitators) you’ll know the basic rhythm of play.
Each of the robots can transform into their respective vehicles, granting them a much increased movement range, though in this form they’re unable to fight back if attacked.
The game’s available on the Android Market now for $2.99. Keep an eye out for our Energon-powered review.
