Way back in 1996, if you wanted a copy of Tomb Raider you had to drive out to a store and warm up to the idea of parting with about $40 for the disc.

Now, the original adventure can be downloaded instantly to your iPhone or iPad at a fraction of the price - and that fraction's gotten even small thanks to a flash sale that ends on Monday, March 10.

From now until then, you can download the Pocket Gamer Bronze Award-winning action title for 99c / 69p - which is a nice discount from its normal asking price of $2.99 / £1.99.

From the vaults

In our review of Tomb Raider I, we said it was "quite unlike anything else on iOS right now" and pointed to its lack of hand-holding as both a point for, and against, the title.

We also said "Tomb Raider I is a truly interesting game to play, both as a pocket history lesson and as a standalone adventure game" - and praised it for being able to "evoke those wonderful feelings of isolation and discovery that the series - and gaming as a whole - has lost in the years since its initial release."

If this sounds like something you'd like on your iOS device of choice, pick it up before Monday to take advantage of the sale.
