Electronic Arts has announced that it will bring The Sims 3, the latest instalment of the micromanaging lifestyle simulator, to homes consoles and the Nintendo DS this autumn.

The Sims 3 came to PC and Mac in June last year, and has cropped up on a variety of mobile platforms including the iPhone App Store and the Nokia Ovi store.

In the DS version, players will use the stylus to build their dream home and deck it out with furniture, textures, and objects. Then, they can turn their sculpting stylus to their Sims' face, to carve out facial features, choose hair styles, pick out clothing, and dictate personalities on what EA is saying is the most robust 'Create a Sim' mode yet for a handheld version of this franchise.

It's got a Story mode, where you can control a bunch of Sims as you "enjoy life's special moments", but you'll also get the full life simulation stuff too, allowing you to unlock additional items, new buildings and landmarks, and more.

The game will be available before the year is out.
