Mike Singleton's 'timeless' strategy RPG The Lords of Midnight now available for 99c / 69p

Modern gamers often chafe at the cult of nostalgia worship that surrounds games from the 80's, but The Lords of Midnight is a classic game that deserves its praise.

And now, gamers young and old can praise it for a whole new reason - it's currently on sale for 99c / 69p, which is a pleasant change from its original $4.99 / £2.99 iTunes price.

Mike Singleton's Gold Award-winning The Lords of Midnight was a massive undertaking in 1984, and its complexity still shines thorough almost 30 years later as it gives you the chance to play it as an adventure RPG, a sweeping strategy epic, or a hybrid of the two for the truly masochistic players out there.

Midnight madness

In The Lords of Midnight, you have the choice to destroy the Ice Crown to defeat the big baddie Doomdark (think Sauron, Frodo, and The One Ring) or you can pull a full-on Aragorn, rally the Moonprinces of Midnight to your cause, and meet Doomdark's forces in open battle.

Sure, the names are a bit silly - but the gameplay stands up to modern standards thanks to its iOS port.

In our review of The Lords of Midnight, we called it an "an unmissable remake" and added that, "Although The Lords of Midnight can be completed with reasonable ease if you know what you're doing, the appeal of replaying it using different tactics is immense".
