The First Ascent takes you on a mountain climbing adventure, out now on iOS
  • The First Ascent is a mountaineering puzzle adventure
  • Clamber up a sheer mountain face and evade obstacles
  • Customise and create your own character or pick from unlockable climbers with different abilities

Who hasn't wanted to be a mountain climber? Well, anyone who's afraid of heights, or falling for that matter, I'd suppose. But for those of you who've always wanted to ascend to even greater heights, there's a new way to do so with the newly released iOS-exclusive The First Ascent.

In The First Ascent, you create and customise your own character, or select from unlockable climbers, each with different abilities, as you seek to navigate a sheer mountain face into the heavens. Along the way, you'll have to contend with all manner of obstacles such as unstable handholds, raging blizzards and howling winds.

Visually speaking, The First Ascent is quite simple with low-poly characters and environments where the focus is squarely on your climber and the wall that they're ascending. So, for those looking for an authentic mountain exploration experience, this might not be what you're looking for.

The peak

At the same time, for those of you wanting an experience on mobile that's a faster-paced puzzle experience in terms of mountain exploration, then The First Ascent is probably for you. You'll be faced with new perils and obstacles in each level, with the option to race against the clock or go at your own speed.

It's certainly an interesting setup for what is essentially a quick-paced puzzler, but with everything from jungle mountains and magma caves to explore, there's no doubt that The First Ascent will offer plenty of excitement as well as tense, white-knuckle (literally) action and fun.

Speaking of heading upwards, though, moving on up is practically the most iconic mechanic in gaming, apart from maybe tennis. So, if you're looking to experience everything that the platforming genre has to offer, why not dig into our list of the top 25 best platformers on iOS and Android?
