App Army Assemble: The Deep Paths: Labyrinth of Andokost - Will it sate thirsty Legend of Grimrock fans?

iOS The Legend of Grimrock fans have had very little to sate their thirst for first person dungeon crawling - at least until now.

The Deep Paths: Labyrinth of Andokost has just launched, providing a very similar experience to the fan favourite. But is it any good?

We'll be looking into just that at review shortly. But if you're eager for an answer right now, our eager band of hardened gaming enthusiasts in the App Army are here to help.

So far so good. I've only had a chance to play for a short while but I'm really liking what I've seen so far.

The inspirations are obvious but if that's what you are here for then it won't disappoint.

This is pretty much The Legend of Grimrock with slightly different mechanics. I think this one looks better though.

Only played an hour or so but think once I get a bit more into it and understand the mechanics better, I'll really enjoy it.

This looks nice - it's nothing groundbreaking but good. The controls are a little clunky at times - they're a bit too small. I hope this gets fixed in a patch. The gameplay is good and even though the story is not the best it's nicely told.

This is a dungeon crawler done well, not perfect but it's fun to play and will have me going back for more.

If you're looking for a new dungeon crawler, this might be it. It's got everything you want from the genre, like exploration, weapons and items, puzzle solving, and combat. However, it's not without its issues.

I will say upfront, with the exception of the plot, that The Legend of Grimrock is a much better game.

The controls are less sluggish, the inventory management more refined, and the combat is nippier and deeper in The Legend of Grimrock. I also hate that I can't customise my control preference, though that could come in a later patch.

This is a decent game if you need a dungeon crawler fix, but it may leave much to be desired if you're someone who has been spoiled by the polish of what's come before.

After playing for a little bit, I've determined that dungeon crawlers must not be my thing. I found that the controls too clunky. I don't know what would make them better, but I found myself moving in directions I didn't want to go, or looking at the ground when I didn't want to.

The story is pretty basic, nothing special, and it seems like they sort of just copied and pasted The Legend Of Grimrock, then changed a couple of things.

Laura Egri

This feels like a combination of Descend (same author) and The Legend of Grimrock. It's low on challenge - you don't feel like you're in any real danger when fighting or exploring, as it's too easy to exploit and gear up your characters.

The environment should have more variation as well. It needs more traps and tricks. But overall it's a nice lite dungeon crawler for a relaxing time.
