We’ve always wondered why there aren’t more monocular heroes on iOS, but thankfully Frozenbyte, developer of the critically-acclaimed Trine, is set to redress the balance with its next title Splot.

Splot, according to the Finnish game-maker, is a “cartoony puzzle platformer”, and it’s due for release on both iPhone and iPad in late summer.

Early level art suggests Splot will have to overcome plenty of hazards across the game’s 100+ levels. Expect pointy spikes, mummies, large boulders and orange fuzzy things. Unfortunately, at this stage we’ve no idea whether the aforementioned visually-challenged bovines are good or bad.

Levels are split into various themes, like desert, farm, tropical cave, and dungeon, and there will be a “magical story” to tie everything together.

So far it looks cute, if perhaps a little generic, but the folks at Frozenbyte are a talented bunch and we imagine there will be more surprises in store when it launches later this year.
