We have to say, Gameloft's new game Soul of Darkness is a brave move. After all, not many mobile games publishers would sign up a notorious Black Metal band and use them as the basis for a platform adventure.

Oh, hang on.

Okay, so Soul of Darkness is nothing to do with the band of the same name. Instead, it's an own-IP mobile adventure that sees you exploring 11 levels packed with monsters.

They range from castles and cathedrals through to dark woods and caves, with the backgrounds rendered in pseudo-3D to give the game a visual kick.

Gameplay-wise, it's a mixture of beating off werewolves, gargoyles and zombies with your fire sword and ice spear, while using your "transformation ability" to reach otherwise inaccessible spots.

It looks great, as you can see, and Gameloft is an old hand at the action-platformer genre, so the game itself should be pretty nifty.

We still think mobile game publishers are missing a trick when it comes to signing up scary metal bands for spin-off games, mind. Cannibal Corpse Bowling anyone? Okay, thought not.
