Anyone who played the console version of Sonic Unleashed probably isn't all that excited about the newly released mobile adaptation. But you might recall those brief moments of splendour then the spiky blue one returned to his retro form in some side-on, high speed platform action.

Well, it would appear that Gameloft's mobile version of Sonic Unleashed keeps to this format throughout, rather than interfering with the gameplay that made Sonic such a hit to begin with.

For some inexplicable reason, Sonic has become something of a Jekyll and Hyde; turning into a mindless 'werehog' when night rolls around. In the game's bigger console brother, this made for some tedious button mashing, but the mobile version at least keeps to the platforming gameplay, so hopefully Sonic will survive the transition this time around.

As you can see from the trailer below, Sonic Unleashed is very much up to speed and doing what Sonic does best, so let's hope this turns out to be the hot new Sonic game we glimpsed on the console.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
