Sonic at the Olympic Games - Tokyo 2020 is available to download but isn't playable for everyone yet

Sonic at the Olympic Games – Toyko 2020 is now available for both iOS and Android, sort of. It's available to download wherever you are in the world. However, depending on your location you might not be able to play it just yet and will be greeted with Error Code 20309 instead.

There are several user-submitted reviews on Google Play right now claiming they've been able to play the game since they live in Australia whilst several other people have taken to given the game 1-star because it's not working for them.

When the game is eventually playable, Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be made up of a series of mini-games to compete in. This includes the following:

  • 100m
  • 400m Hurdles
  • Javelin Throw
  • Archery
  • Karate
  • Diving
  • Shooting
  • Sport Climbing
  • Fencing
  • Trampoline
  • Hammer Throw
  • Table Tennis
  • Long Jump
  • BMX
  • Badminton

Each of these events will be controlled through a series of taps and flicks where your timing will be crucial for earning higher scores. You can see some of them in action in the trailer above. Beyond the standard events, there will also be EX stages that add alternative rules to try and keep things interesting.

As you'd expect, there will be multiple characters from the Sonic universe to play as including the blue hedgehog himself, Amy, Knuckles, Tails and Shadow. A full list of the characters that are playable can be found over on the game's official website.

Of course, there needs to be some kind of story to tie all this together, you can't just have hedgehogs and other critters doing sports. Dr Eggman has taken over Tokyo, deeming it worthy of being his own city since it's large enough to host the Olympics. So, Sonic challenges him to a series of Olympic events to decide the fate of the city.

Sonic at the Olympic Games – Tokyo 2020 is available to download now over on the App Store and Google Play. It's a free-to-play game with in-app purchases.
