Days of Wonder's iOS boardgame adaptation Small World is what we like to call in the business a 'hit'.

As well as winning a coveted Pocket Gamer Silver Award for it, you see, Days of Wonder has sold more than 650,000 copies across the digital and physical versions of its mix of fantasy archetypes and world building.

Not one to rest on its laurels, Days of Wonder has just released a new digital version of the game, called Small World 2. This expansion / sequel boasts a range of new features designed to keep you playing for even longer.

Bigger world

This time around, you can play with more people, so up to five players can face off against one another (compared to two players in the original game).

There's online, asynchronous, and pass-the-handset multiplayer; ranking matches for those of a competitive bent; and AI opponents for lone wolves.

With 20 new races to play, new expansions that only one person playing the game has to buy, and a host of other exciting new features, Small World 2 represents a helluva package.

Small World 2 is available as a free update to gamers who've already bought Small World for iPad. If you haven't bought the original game yet, it'll set you back £6.99 / $9.99.

There's an Android version of Small World 2 on the way, too, thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign.
