Sega's Rhythm Thief & the Paris Caper is out now for iPad and iPhone

And you need to be online to play it

Sega's Rhythm Thief & the Paris Caper is out now for iPad and iPhone

Rhythm Thief & the Paris Caper has just landed out of the blue on the App Store, two years after it earned a Pocket Gamer Silver Award on 3DS.

This sudden arrival isn't the only surprise. There's also the fact that Rhythm Thief on iOS isn't freemium, like we were expecting. It'll set you back £6.99 / $9.99.

It also contains IAPs for instant "R Coins", the in-game currency, as well as "new side-stories, games and expert difficulty levels".

Another surprise is that Rhythm Thief & the Paris Caper is only compatible with iOS 6.0 and later, and you'll need a network connection to play it. If you don't have a good connection then brace yourself for some corrupt save files.

Despite the online requirement, the only online feature seems to be the ability to borrow your friends' characters and accomplices, which can be handy for tougher levels.

Emperor's new clothes

Despite the new name (it was called Rhythm Thief and the Emperor's Treasure on 3DS), Rhythm Thief & the Paris Caper on iOS is essentially the same game.

You'll be playing Parisian child thief Raphael, matching beats and rhythms with taps and swipes.

It's not all dancing, though, as the game's many missions involve stealing, sneaking, and fighting your way across the Champs-Elysees and other Parisian landmarks.

You'll also have to stand up against your nemesis, Napoleon, in order to uncover the truth behind your father's disappearance.

Rhythm Thief & the Paris Caper is available on the App Store [buy] for £6.99 / $9.99.
