Reigns celebrates ten years of rule with 190 additional event cards
- Reigns celebrates ten years of rule this year with a new free update
- Over 190 event cards offer crucial decisions for your monarch to make
- Meanwhile, there are new objectives, new endings and new ways to die
While it may not be as in-depth as something like Crusader Kings, the card-based choose-your-own-adventure game Reigns certainly makes you feel like a monarch making world-shaking decisions. And its popularity since first launching in 2016 has led to many spinoffs, but the original Reigns still stands strong as the defining entry in the series.
Now, with the franchise celebrating its 10th anniversary, the original Reigns is getting a major new update. We're not talking cosmetics or visual overhauls, though, as instead developer Nerial are introducing 190 new event cards for you to make decisions on! That's alongside new objectives to complete, new characters to meet and new ways for your monarch to meet their end.

Heavy is the head that wears the crown
Some may see CYOA as somewhat shallow, but I'd disagree. Something like Reigns may have an inherent limit on how many events and paths you can follow, but both aesthetically and in terms of writing, it really helps immerse the player in their role that other games such as Crusader Kings simply can't.And if this update is any indication, there's plenty of space to expand on the story of Reigns over time with additional event cards and endings.
