King Kong designer Ancel returns to Rayman roots

Michel Ancel gets legless (and armless!) with his original platform creation

King Kong designer Ancel returns to Rayman roots

Like his fellow countryman Gérard Depardieu, you wonder sometimes how French gaming icon Rayman made it big.

Okay, both have big noses, but at least Depardieu has comic timing and can cook. Rayman, on the other hand, lacks legs and arms. His only plus point seems to be the ability to hover using his ears as a rotor, which, while amusing as a student party trick, seems a bit weak compared to Lara's athletism or Mario's bounce.

But after managing to pull off Ubisoft's big King Kong gamble, designer Michel Ancel has returned to his first love – and the word is that the fourth game in the Rayman series will be out this Christmas.

Other information is scarce at present, but our Pocket Gamer spies tell us to expect DS, PSP and GBA versions.

As for Ubisoft, head honcho Yves Guillemot says, "We are expecting this new Rayman video game to sweep players off their feet", which will be impressive coming from a character lacking any sort of bone structure.
