Phantasy Star Portable PSP hits the half million mark in a week

Massive Japanese sales outdo even Final Fantasy

Phantasy Star Portable PSP hits the half million mark in a week
| Phantasy Star Portable

A few days ago we reported that Phantasy Star Portable had shifted in massive numbers on its release day in Japan – around 217,000 copies in one day, which is pretty impressive stuff.

And, according to figures sourced by PSP Fanboy, the game's first full week's sales were just as lively, with it going on to shift 500,000 copies.

That doesn't outdo the hard work of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, which sold 880,000 copies in its first week on sale in Japan, but it does beat another popular PSP game you might have heard of: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. That 'only' managed to shift 480,000 copies in its debut week.

The real news here is just how many copies the 'big name' games are currently selling in Japan. The PSP is still topping the hardware charts there too, so it's a double celebration for Sony.

Hopefully we'll get to see what all the fuss is about with Phantasy Star Portable here at some point – currently there's no news on when it might be coming to Europe.
