Thanks to wacky global time zones, New Zealanders are the first to try Perfect Cell, the latest game from Edge and Trucker's Delight developer Mobigame. It'll arrive on the UK App Store at midnight.

You play as a weird, floating, squid-like organism, apparently the “most advanced creature ever discovered on Earth”, who isn’t so happy with his current role of secret research lab-rat. So he uses his powers to break out, solve puzzles, and kill the armed guards that stand in his way.

You control the perfect cell with finger gestures, swiping across the screen to move about and churn your enemies up into gooey chunks. You’ll sometimes need to control up to three cells at the same time, using multi-touch control to guide them all around the environment.

The game offers up 35 different levels to play through across five different worlds. It’s all presented in 3D graphics, but played from a strictly side-one plane. Like Xbox Live Arcade’s Shadow Complex. For iPhone 4 and fourth-generation iPod touch owners, it has Retina display visuals.

It also comes packed with achievements and leaderboards through Apple’s Game Center. And it’s a universal app, meaning it works on both iPhone and iPad. As soon as the clocks strike 12, Perfect Cell will be yours for £3.49 / $5.99 / €4.99.
