Rovio has often said that it's going to be bigger than Disney but it's another app entertainment company that's now working with the House of the Mouse.

Talking Tom Cat publisher Outfit7 has just announced it's signed up with Disney Interactive Media to produce an original animated web series.

Including characters such as Tom, Ben and - no doubt - Tom's girlfriend Angela, the series will run on Disney.com, Disney's new network on YouTube, and also be accessible through the Talking Friends mobile apps.

Looks who's talking

The franchise - which is kid and family-focused - has now done 390 million apps downloads on iOS and Android; up from 360 million in March and a number that's increasing at the rate of 35 million per month.

In particular, the talking aspect of the apps have found a place on YouTube, with the total number of user generated uploads for the franchise now over 750,000 videos. They've been viewed more than 350 million times.

"Tom, Ben and the entire Talking Friends cast are international celebrities who have built strong emotional connections with millions of fans worldwide. As a result they are transcending the mobile space to new entertainment mediums with online video being one of the first," said Samo Login, Outfit7's CEO.

"The Talking Friends characters are global mobile app sensations. We're thrilled to bring these very popular characters to life in a new family-friendly online video series," added Disney.com's SVP Mark Walker.
