Hands on with PSP pseudo 3D peripheral V-Screen
Added depth?
While the Nintendo 3DS was the talk of E3 2010, in one of the smaller stands, hidden away in a quiet corner was RealView Innovations' V-Screen peripheral for PSP.
Best described as a cheap-and-cheerful approach to the current fixation with 3D gaming, the company call it a 'depth enhancing screen technology' that works with all existing games.
Clip on lookerUsing a Fresnel lens mounted above the PSP (see here for more details), it enhances the perceived depth of the action on the PSP's screen, with RealView saying it's particularly effective on racing and platform games.
Personally I wasn't convinced it added much to the experience, although there was no question that you could easily see the impact of the screen.
It just didn't make the games on show - God of War and Gran Turismo (I think) - any more playable.
And more problematic was the bulky, plasticky and creaky nature of the mounting that holds the screen in place.
Still for $/€40 - see here for online retailers - what do you expect?
