If, like us, you haven't started your Christmas shopping yet, here are a few good reasons to. That's Christmas shopping for yourself, we should specify – after all, you've got to test the water.

Begin, then, with a visit to GAME, where you'll find Test Drive Unlimited and Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy for a very reasonable £12.99 each.

True, it's a little slim in the way of bargains considering the retailer's leading market position, and if you're anything like us it won't be enough to sustain your consumerist urge. So follow that up by clicking over to Play.com, where for the same £12.99 you'll receive a copy of Sega Mega Drive Collection, or, for a mere £9.99, the ever-playable Mercury Meltdown.

But if it's substance you crave, then Amazon will provide it. Okay, Metal Slug Anthology is more fire-and-forget type material but at £9.98 we can't help but mention it. The real guns, however, come in the form of GTA Vice City Stories (at a silly £9.98) and – are you sitting down for this? – the just-released Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions for a staggering £17.98.

That's the same FF Tactics that has scored Pocket Gamer's first 10/10 review on PSP. Yours, at 40 per cent off.

Even if the game doesn't appeal (and it really, really should), at that price you can afford to try it and sell it on without making a loss should you decide it's not for you (hey, there's no accounting for taste).

(We ought to point out that, should you have some moral objection to buying from Amazon, both FF Tactics and Metal Slug Anthology are also available from Play.com for just a penny apiece more – £17.99 and £9.99, respectively.)
