Japanese 3DS owners getting full-game downloads next week
Nintendo rushes to match the Vita's digital provisions
Coinciding with the release of the Nintendo 3DS XL on the 28th of July 3DS, owners in Japan will be able to purchase New Super Mario Bros. 2 and the newest edition of Dr Kawashima's Brain Training from the eShop for 4,800 yen (£40) and 3,800 yen (£31) respectively
This marks the first time that full retail games have been released onto the eShop, taking their place in the catalogue alongside retro titles and demos.
The move comes no doubt as a reaction to Sony's PlayStation Vita digital download strategy, with every retail game for that system having been released on the Playstation Store alongside the physical retail release.
European and North American 3DS owners, meanwhile, will have to wait a little longer before they can jump on the digital download train.
