E3 2012: New Super Mario Bros. 2 for 3DS will feature a co-operative campaign mode

Yesterday at E3, Nintendo announced that its forthcoming 3DS platformer New Super Mario Bros. 2 will arrive packing a co-operative option, which will allow you to play through the game's Campaign mode with a buddy.

This new entry in the extremely popular Mario franchise will also feature an all-new Gold Rush mode that'll see you collect as many coins as you possibly can across three levels using just one life.

The high scores you manage to earn while playing in this mode will be shared with other 3DS owners you meet via the console's StreetPass functionality.

You can check this mode out in the video below.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 will hit store shelves in Europe on August 17th. It will also be the first downloadable 3DS title in Ninty's eShop.
