NBA 2K All Star to launch at the end of next month, bringing the top-flight basketball sim to mobile

China-only, for now

NBA 2K All Star to launch at the end of next month, bringing the top-flight basketball sim to mobile
  • NBA 2K All Star, a mobile adaptation of the hit sports sim, is coming to mobile
  • Courtesy of Tencent and NBA teaming up, it looks to bring a live-service version of the series to fans
  • It's only set to release in the east, however, on March 25th

With the increasing capabilities of mobile, it's not surprising that one of the AAA genre staples, sports simulators, has seen an increased presence on mobile. But what is surprising is seeing that Tencent and the NBA (National Basketball Association) have teamed up to bring the NBA 2K series to mobile in China! With a release date reportedly coming on March 25th.

It shouldn't be all that surprising that Tencent and the NBA are teaming up, what with both being big in the spheres of gaming only in different ways. However, you may be surprised to learn that basketball is a big business in Tencent's homeland of China, drawing in numerous viewers and fans every year.

Considering that, 2K All Stars arriving on mobile is less surprising. But what will be intriguing is just what is included in this mobile version, as it's obviously missing the usual year-based branding (2K24, 2K25 etc.). Long-term live service? We'll just have to wait and see what comes out when it releases on March 25th over in China.

Until we actually know more about 2K All Stars pretty much everything we can discuss is pure speculation. But even that is informative because, as you'll likely be aware, the NBA is making its presence known on mobile even more with the release of Dunk City Dynasty that's also made in collaboration with the organisation.

Of course, there have been some missteps, like NBA All World slowly folding after a much-hyped release. But overall it seems as if mobile is becoming the next big thing for the NBA to draw in fans.
