Mikey Boots, the tappy new entry in the Mikey series, is set to hit iOS and iPad on September 4th
Boot up
Mikey Boots is the third game in the Mikey series (or at least it is if you ignore Mikey Shorts Halloween, which apparently I am doing) and it's a pretty big departure, dropping the platforming of the first two games in favour of a more tappy approach.
You move forwards automatically. Tapping on the left side of the screen moves you up to the left, and tapping on the right moves you up and to the right. It turns the spike-filled obstacles courses you face into mazes.
There are still gold coins to collect, and stars are still awarded for how quickly you make it through the level. The controls are smooth and the graphics have had a bit of spit and polish since Mikey Hooks came out about a year ago.
Fans of Mikey Shorts and Mikey Hooks might find it a little too different, but it's worth persevering with, because there are some neat arcade ideas wrapped up in the shiny package.
The game is set to hit the App Store on September 4th and when it does it'll set you back £1.49 / $1.99. There are no IAPs or adverts either, so that's good.
