GC 2008: LEGO Batman to support PS3-PSP Remote Play

The option of playing your PlayStation 3 games on your PSP via the Remote Play feature hasn't been used very often - in fact, since the somewhat ropey original experiment with Lair, the only games to offer the option have been PlayStation Network titles rather than full Blu-ray ones.
Maybe that's not surprising though as other than being a bit of a gimmick, it's hard to see exactly why anyone would offer the feature.
Which is why we're a bit surprised to discover that the forthcoming PlayStation 3 version of LEGO Batman will include the option for PSP Remote Play.
Of course, we're happily surprised - but surprised nevertheless - as there will be a native PSP/UMD version of the game released too.
However, we had a quick go at the recent Leipzig Games Convention and it all seemed to work fine. Basically, all that's happening is the PSP is being used a screen and input device, so the PlayStation 3 does all the processing (as usual) and streams each frame to the PSP via wi-fi. You then press the PSP buttons and move your nub around and those inputs are streamed back to the PS3, which then uses them to update the next frame, and so on.
Indeed, theoretically, we're told all PlayStation 3 games could offer this feature but as the PSP only has one analog stick rather than the DualShock 3's two, it's not worth doing in many cases.
LEGO Batman is due for release on DS, PSP and most other consoles during October.
