Almost Human has now officially announced that its first-person PC dungeon crawler Legend of Grimrock will be coming to iOS.

We first heard of Almost Human's intentions to create an iOS port of Legend of Grimrock from a tweet back in 2012. We hadn't heard anything since and presumed that was due to the studio working on a sequel for PC.

It turns out we were right. Almost Human said in the announcement today that it didn't want just anybody working on the iOS port, and it was too busy to do it itself.

Luckily, a friend of the studio, Juha Pinola, stepped up and has been working on the port for a while now.

"The game isn’t just a direct port from the PC version of Legend of Grimrock," Almost Human said.

"We have always felt that the game wouldn't work on touch screens straight out of the box but needed a few custom mechanics to get the benefits of the touch interface."

As you can see above, Almost Human also released the first image showing Legend of Grimrock running on an iPad.

Regarding a release date, Almost Human could only say it will be ready "when it's done".

Dust the cobwebs

Now that we know for sure that it's coming, let's quickly go over what Legend of Grimrock is.

It plays a lot like the Atari ST classic Dungeon Master, actually. You control a party of four adventurers (of your choice) as one unit, and move in real-time across a 3D grid-based dungeon.

There are environmental puzzles to solve, lots of deadly traps to avoid, and of course, loads of enemies to battle. Expect to meet huge poisonous spiders, knights, and giant tunnel ogres face-to-face.
