Amisdst all the brouhaha surrounding the new iPhone 5, Apple also found time to let the world know when iOS 6 is going to be released – September the 19th to be precise. Just one short week away.

The good news is the update won't cost anything. The bad news is, some older iOS devices aren't going to be included in the update program.

So if you own a first generation iPad, an iPhone that pre-dates the 3GS, or a third generation or older iPod touch, you're bang out of luck.

The new OS has been in beta since WWDC earlier in the year, so it was no real surprise to see a new Maps app, complete with swanky swoopy 3D cities, showcased in the big reveal. It also lets you unify a phone number and an Apple ID for cross platform messaging and Facetime.

Users can also expect better Facebook integration, including the ability to update your status from the slide-down notifications bar. You can send tweets in the same way too, if Twitter is your social network of choice.

It also adds Siri to iPad and brings some new features to Game Center.
