Apple: 93% of our customers are running iOS 6
Users keeping up with updates
An impressive 93 percent of iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users are running iOS 6 on their devices, with just 7 percent having failed to update to the latest version of the platform.
That's according to official statistics published by Apple taken over a two week period ending 3 June.
The numbers, published part of a revised check list for developers looking to optimise their apps for the OS, are designed to illustrate how fragmentation is less of an issue on iOS than on other platforms.
Up to dateIndeed, Apple's numbers seem to suggest the majority of iOS users upgrade to the latest version of the platform almost on commands.
It's likely a large chunk of the 7 percent running iOS 5 or older own legacy devices unable to upgrade to iOS 6.
Apple's numbers stand in stark contrast to official Android figures regularly published by Google, which suggest only 33 percent of consumers have the latest version of the platform – better known as Jelly Bean – installed on their devices.
Indeed, the most widespread version of Android at the moment is Gingerbread, first launched in December 2010.
