Epic’s Mark Rein has told Joystiq that the first Unreal Engine 3 game on the iPhone - Infinity Blade from Chair Entertainment - has been more successful than the company’s previous release on the home consoles, Shadow Complex.

Annoyingly, Rein doesn't go into specifics - he might be referring to downloads, sales, revenue, or profits.

There’s a case to say that the iOS hit has likely beaten the home console release in all those fronts, especially given that the (originally) $5.99 mobile game has over four times more people on the leaderboards than the $15 home console release, and that development costs are likely to be much lower than its stationary UE3 stablemate.

But leaderboards aren’t the most reliable way of measuring a game's sales. As a certain Mark Rein from Epic Games pointed out earlier in the year, "the Game Center numbers being reported are quite a bit lower than the actual sales".

In any case, it’s fair to say that Infinity Blade has been a strong debut in mobile gaming for both Epic and Chair.
