2015 has come to an end. So it's time to look to the future. To the next 12 months, and to the next batch of 3DS games we can't wait to play.

From huge RPGs to Kickstarted platformers to Wii U ports to oh-my-god there's a new Fire Emblem coming out, here's what to look forward to in 2016.

This ain't your grandpappy's Zelda game. No puzzles, no dungeons, no faffing about in the ocean. Just Link, his sword, about a gazillion mobilns, and the attack button.

This one's been out in Japan for yonks, but it's finally getting an English translation. You'll give yourself jobs, hunt down monsters, and even team up with friends in multiplayer as you take on hundreds of quests.

Mega Man maker Keiji Inafune has escaped Capcom, and can finally fulfil his dream of making a game about a robot boy who collects powers by defeating bosses. Thank god for Kickstarter.

What do you get if you cross Leon Kennedy, Phoenix Wright, Ryo Hazuki, Chrom from Fire Emblem, and Heihachi from Tekken? This is not the start of the world's nerdiest joke. It is a literal description of Project X Zone 2.

The fact that a new Fire Emblem game, with even more depth and content than Awakening, is already out in Japan gives me palpitations. Or should I say, three Fire Emblem games - you'll be have to buy Birthright, Conquest, and Revelation to get everything.

Bravely Default was so good, and it sold so well, that it made Square Enix reconsider its strategy for Final Fantasy. If you too were ensorcelled by this beautiful and involving RPG, a sequel should be music to your ears.

It's the game that fans tried to kill. And yes, we agree that the Samus Aran no-show and the distinct lack a moody, isolated atmosphere could send you to Change.org. But stay your hand: this has the potential to be a super fun co-op blaster, and the football-esque spin-off mode is a triumph, too.
