Gamescom Opening Night Live, a name which either evokes joy or provokes an eye-roll. But regardless of what you think of this glitz and glamour-soaked ode to gaming, there's plenty of news flowing out of it. Not least being the newest trailer for ARPG MOBA spin-off, Honor of Kings: World!
For those not in the know, Honor of Kings is Tencent's popular MOBA, a megahit in China that's now begun to take the world by storm. Having already made an appearance in Amazon's Secret Level anthology earlier this year, Honor of Kings: World is the next step in expanding the franchise with a more single-player-focused experience.
The new trailer is definitely showing off with all the flashy graphics and particle effects for Honor of Kings: World. But it also gives us an even greater look at the fast-paced real-time combat that you can expect, as well as the magitek creatures you'll do battle with.
World-beating
Honor of Kings: World could be the breakthrough success that Tencent needs to put the HoK franchise on everybody's lips. The MOBA genre, for better or for worse, is one that commands a small but dedicated niche of enthusiastic players. However, an open-world RPG would bring in a more casual crowd looking for something a little more laid-back while still providing a challenge.And the decision to put Honor of Kings: World front and centre for an international audience at Gamescom Opening Night Live indicates that the folks at Tencent are banking on this bringing in players who might otherwise give MOBAs a wide berth.
