Free online point-and-click game for DS and PSP
NextGenBooks offers us The Half Broken Crown
Many adventure stories start with a young buck with unrealised powers heading out into (and eventually thriving within) a mysterious world he's not familiar with. And so it seems with fantasy writer Darren Reid.
As previously reported, his NextGenBooks webhub has already branched out to offer interactive, browser-based fiction for the likes of DS, PSP and even iPod (as well as PC/Mac, PS3 and Wii).
Now he's getting more ambitious, and is planning to morph his The Half Broken Crown novel into a free online point-and-click adventure game, called The Half Broken Crown: The Broken Kingdoms.
Designed to run in each device's browser, the game will take a first-person perspective but involve puzzle-solving rather than combat – you won't be able to die.
Further plans will see the game expanded with the addition of online community aspects. These will include a hub where you can meet fellow travellers before moving out to play the game together. Buddy lists can be created, while solo players will be able to call on online help during their game. These online feature won't be available for DS and PSP at launch, however. It's expected they will be added later in the year.
Episodic content will also be made rolled out through 2007, with prices for these extra missions ranging from $2.50 to $5.00.
The Half Broken Crown: The Broken Kingdoms will launch in June at NextGenBooks.
