GameSalad has announced its no-code-needed development tool GameSalad Creator will now run on Windows, allowing a potential 500 million plus users to utilise the game creation tool.

More than 60,000 games across mobile and web have been made using GameSalad Creator to date, with those behind the tool hoping its new Windows version – which is currently in closed beta testing – will raise that total further.

Creating history

"Since we launched at SXSW in 2009, GameSalad has witnessed incredible growth," said CEO Steve Felter.

"Initially, we introduced GameSalad Creator to Mac users, empowering them to easily create and publish iPhone and iPad games without the need to code.

"We've since added publishing to Android and HTML5 platforms, making cross-platform development as simple as clicking a button. Today, we answer the requests of thousands of game developers who've asked us to bring this remarkable platform to Windows users."

The firm's stats suggest around 15 percent of all new games to hit iOS in 2011 were created using GameSalad, with more than 60 titles having made the top 100 in the US App Store.

Those looking to take part in the closed beta for Windows 7 should sign up on the GameSalad website.
