Game of Thrones: Kingsroad hits early access on Steam

- But that'll be the first time we'll see people get hands-on with it
When it comes to genre-defining works I think few would argue that Game of Thrones has come to be the example of dark medieval fantasy, at least to a modern audience. But since the ending of the HBO miniseries, the original setting of Westeros has remained largely dormant aside from the spin-off series House of the Dragon.
But no longer! Well, on the gaming front at least, as Netmarble's upcoming release Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is set to finally hit early access on March 26th. There's only one small catch, and for mobile players, it's that this is purely going to be a Steam launch for the time being.
This move is an interesting one for Netmarble who have been primarily known as a mobile-focused company. But if any release will have the mass appeal to draw eyeballs it'll be Game of Thrones; so here's hoping a successful Steam early access campaign sees it coming to mobile sooner rather than later.
Now, Netmarble's tactic here somewhat confuses me, considering they've been mobile-focused for so long. I've no doubt that this may be a stress test situation, as PC players will inevitably come down harder on anything they perceive to be interfering with the overall experience.
However, it does leave mobile players who've been more accepting of this somewhat in the lurch and follows a similar tactic as happened with Once Human and Delta Force, both of these releases from other companies seemingly prioritising PC over mobile.
Are we seeing more of a shift towards PC-first approaches from classically mobile companies? We'll have to wait and see.
