Phil Hassey launches Kickstarter campaign for RTS sequel Galcon 2: Galactic Conquest
Secondary invasion
Phil Hassey has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the "definitive" follow-up to his space-based real-time strategy hit Galcon.
With Galcon 2: Galactic Conquest, Hassey hopes to increase the scope of the franchise's multiplayer component by adding a galaxy map, auto-match functionality, and clan support.
He's also decided to take the game into free-to-play territory. As Hassey sees it, this will increase the number of online players, vastly improving the variety and availability of competitors and game types.
Making Galcon 2 F2P will also allow players to purchase things like ship upgrades and cosmetic enhancements.
However, the series's creator is keen to stress that "[he'll] be working hard with the community to ensure that play balance isn't upset by these upgrades".
Blast from the pastThe original Galcon earned a Pocket Gamer Silver Award on review back in 2008 in part for its "simple controls and deep strategy".
Though Galcon 2 is initially being developed for PC and Mac, the game will be ported to iOS and high-end Android devices soon after its release.
Hassey is looking to raise $23,099 by January 7th. If you're itching to start another intergalactic war, head over to the Galcon 2: Galactic Conquest Kickstarter page and drop a buck or two.
