Fishlabs to make Galaxy on Fire 2 free to download
For two hours, anyway
German publisher Fishlabs plans to continue its experimentation with mobile games pricing models with its upcoming Galaxy on Fire 2 release.
The intergalactic adventure will feature Fishlabs's trademark 3D visuals and gameplay depth, but the appeal to players will be that it's free to download.
The game will be made available through Fishlabs's own website and selected partners, and will offer around two hours of free gameplay.
However, players will then have to register online to continue in the game, paying 100,000 virtual Fishlabs credits (around €5.97 in Western Europe, and less in other countries).
"We are aware that a game like this is just for hard-boiled gamers," says Fishlabs boss Michael Schade. "Therefore, we are also relying completely on our free distribution concept, so that Galaxy on Fire 2 will spread rapidly via Internet file sharing networks via viral marketing."
The publisher previously made waves with its declaration that it was abandoning the operator decks - an announcement that provoked a spat with rival firm HandyGames.
