UK location-based developer Project Zebra has closed an investment round led by German venture capital firm Venista Ventures, the company has revealed.

Though the exact amount was not disclosed, Project Zebra says the funds are to used to help publish the firms Foursquare tie-in – FoursqWAR – on new platforms.

Mobile military

FoursqWAR taps into Foursquare's database but swaps the app's mayoral approach with a military theme.

Players are driven to check-in in order to take over buildings by force, with the ultimate goal being to become a General.

The investment in the firm, which Project Zebra will also be used to "further develop its range of fast-growing, location-based iPhone applications", also coincides with a commitment by both parties to collaborate their businesses.

"The agreement ensures our company has the equipment, infrastructure and qualified staff we need to take Project Zebra's software solutions to the next level," said founder and CEO Barry Scott.

FoursqWAR is currently only available on iOS, but the company plans to launch the app on additional platforms later in 2011.
