Square Enix can't justify bringing Dragon Quest VII for 3DS to the west right now

At PAX Prime, Square Enix has said that it can't justify bringing Dragon Quest VII on the 3DS over to western territories at the moment.

Speaking to Siliconera, Square Enix's mobile producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto said that the translation of the game's huge script by itself is a lot of work.

"In terms of scenario and script, the game is probably one of the largest in the DQ franchise," Fujimoto said. "If a lot of people can buy it and support it… well, we can’t promise anything."

Fujimoto also said that having revamped spell and monster names, as well as regional twangs, in recent translations of the series adds more work. Squenix wants the games to be consistent, you see.

"Going back to people who want DQVII to come out… we've gotten a lot of requests, we really want to do it, but right now, we need to hammer out what kind of resources we’d need to do it," Fujimoto added.

"We say this a lot, but, we can’t seem to get to the point where it’s justifiable."

It seems that the only way we'll get Dragon Quest VII for 3DS on this side of the planet is to get enough people to keep asking for it.

If you're eager to play the game on 3DS, you may want to consider politely campaigning for it - let Squenix know that you'd buy it.
