iPhone 5-optimised DoDonPachi Maximum swooping onto iOS this week
Boss approaching
Cave's Windows Phone bullet-hell blaster DoDonPachi Maximum is finally making the leap to iOS this week. And it will be optimised for iPhone 5.
This isn't some revamped arcade classic or a PS2 port, by the way. Japanese developer Cave describes Maximum as its "first all-original smartphone shooter".
And instead of touchscreen buttons, you can control the game exclusively with finger gestures. A two-finger tap, for example, unleashes deadly laser bombs.
It takes place inside a simulator, and features familiar ships from DoDonPachi Blissful Death and DoDonPachi Resurrection. It also contains remixed music from those games.
DoDonPachi Maximum first hit Windows Phone earlier this year. In our Bronze Award review, we said that "DoDonPachi Maximum... is a swanky rehash of games gone by rather than anything revolutionary".
Well, now it's on its way to the App Store. It will fly onto Apple's digital shop on October 26th, with a sale price of £4.99 / $6.99 attached to its wing. On October 29th, the price will rocket up to £7.99 / $11.99.
As usual with Cave titles, DoDonPachi Maximum is only compatible with certain iOS devices. You'll need an iPhone 4 or later, or an iPad 2 or later to run it. Cave doesn't mention iPod touch, but we assume it'll work on the fifth-gen device, at least.
