Old school through and through, Octopath Traveler won't have DLC

Upcoming JRPG Octopath Traveler won’t receive any DLC after it releases, according to the game’s producer, Masashi Takahashi, in a statement to Japanese gaming site Dengeki Online. Takahashi noted that this final version “is the finished product”. That means no bonus story content for fans.

We received a sneak peek of the game back in May, playing through about six hours. Octopath Traveler has a distinct polish, with some truly tough battles, although we’ve only seen the game piecemeal at this point. If you have a Switch, you can play through the game’s prologue right now, and you’ll be able to transfer your progress over to the full game when it launches.

Octopath Traveler arrives on July 13 for Nintendo Switch. What are your thoughts on the news? Were you hoping for some extra content, or are you pleased to hear the team is taking a more traditional approach?
